GPD Win 5 gets 128GB memory options
The new system will also feature a new color option.

We have some good news for gamers who have just won the lottery. GPD has confirmed that its WIN 5 system, which packs an AMD Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 (Strix Halo) APU, will soon have a more expensive option, just in case you don’t know what to do with your money.
On one hand, having the most ridiculous options available for handhelds is something we are pleased to see. At the same time, we are wondering what the actual benefit is of having more than 64GB on such a device. GPD, ONEXPLAYER and others have already found the answer: it is the AI bandwagon and the assumption that gamers will for some reason play games and run large language models at the same time (I mean, will you?),
In the past few years we have seen many gaming handhelds with 16GB, 24GB or even 32GB memory options. Larger capacities were rare, but they did exist from boutique brands like AYANEO and GPD. It was usually the most expensive variant, not necessarily the best in terms of investment.
Promise fulfilled

The new version from GPD will also have a white chassis. Only AYANEO has teased a white version too, so there are not many options with this color. At least we know the Strix Halo handheld market is growing, at a slow pace but still growing.
Outside of the memory upgrade to a 128GB LPDDR5X-8000 option , the system will still be offered with the same hardware. GPD WIN 5 already has MAX 385 and MAX+ 395 options, but it is safe to assume the 128GB option will be limited to the 395 SKU.
The most expensive variant with 64GB, a 4TB SSD and the 395 SKU was already priced at $2268, so we can only assume that the 128GB version will be even more expensive. It should not be too much more expensive, because the ONEXPLAYER APEX with 128GB is already priced at $2239/$2299 (depending on whether you like air or liquid cooling).
