AMD FSR Redstone now features in Call of Duty Black Ops 7, but in limited scope
I guess there is no press event after all.

AMD has launched the first piece of its next-gen FSR “Redstone” stack in a shipping game. Through a joint effort with Activision, the new Ray Regeneration feature is now live in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 for Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards. It’s worth remembering that COD was the first franchinse to susport FSR4 when it came out.
The Ray Regeneration technology targets ray-traced lighting and reflections, using a neural network to clean up noisy ray-traced data before it ever reaches the upscaler, with the goal of sharper, more readable detail in reflective surfaces and complex lighting scenes.
It’s important to understand, this is just one of the four new features already announced for FSR Redstone. What is being added today to COD:
- ✅ML Ray Regeneration: Infers and restores full-quality ray-traced detail from sparse samples, delivering sharp, noise-free visuals with reduced rendering cost.
- ❌ML Super Resolution: Reconstruct crisp, high-quality visuals from low-resolution frames with AMD FSR 4.
- ❌ML Frame Generation: Predicts and inserts new frames between rendered ones, now using ML, to deliver smoother and higher frame rate gaming.
- ❌Neural Radiance Caching: Dynamically learns and then predicts how light propagates through a scene, delivering efficient real-time global illumination.
By restoring ray detail at this early stage in the graphics pipeline, the game can then upscale a cleaner frame, which should reduce shimmer, noise, and temporal instability in areas like water, glass, or glossy materials. AMD also claims the method has been tuned for performance on RX 9000 hardware, aiming to keep ray tracing costs in check while preserving image quality.
Available on AMD Radeon™ RX 9000 Series graphics cards, FSR ‘Redstone’ Ray Regeneration goes live tomorrow in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

This rollout is also the first public step for FSR “Redstone” as a larger ML-driven rendering suite. At Computex 2025, AMD outlined four core blocks: Neural Radiance Caching for real-time global illumination, ML Ray Regeneration for ray-traced detail, ML Super Resolution as the FSR 4 upscaler, and ML Frame Generation for inserting AI-predicted frames between rendered ones.
Together, these parts are meant to give developers a full neural rendering pipeline on Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, covering lighting, ray tracing, resolution scaling, and frame pacing.
AMD’s Jack Huyhn (SVP & GM, Computing & Graphics at AMD) says that this is “just the beginning”, without mentioning any details as to when we should expect the rest. Not to mention, any sign that it will be supported by pre-RX 9000 cards.
