NVIDIA explains how to use DGX Spark for gaming

DGX Spark is not a gaming machine, but we all know it has good specs for a small desktop computer and should, in theory, provide an excellent gaming experience. However, since the system is locked behind DGX OS (Ubuntu) and the architecture is based on ARM, it means that without emulations and optimizations it is not possible to take full advantage of this hardware.
A few days ago we shared news that Redditor Retrodom successfully ran Cyberpunk 2077 on DGX Spark. This was not running natively because Cyberpunk and Steam do not have native ARM clients yet. However, the emulation works well enough to launch the game and make it playable (50 FPS at 1080p medium settings) though access to certain features and technologies was out of the question.

Seeing the interest from the community, NVIDIA decided to step in and provide a guide on how to run Cyberpunk with DLSS and ray tracing on this system specifically. The company notes that this is not a gaming system but a small AI system for specific use. The boring disclaimer aside, we all know that the GB10 Blackwell Superchip powering this system is part of the NVIDIA N1 series, something that has long been rumored to be coming to gamers, possibly launching next year. If that is the case, then it should run games already.

The guide does not magically make the game faster. It just enables DLSS and ray tracing support, which in this case means DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation (this is a Blackwell GPU after all). With this enabled, NVIDIA expects the FPS to jump from around 50 to 175+ with 1080p high settings and raytracing enabled (not only was tech support added, the texture quality also improved).
Now we are wondering if NVIDIA is playing it safe by admitting that Spark is actually a gaming machine marketed for AI and does not want that impression to stick, or if they genuinely want AI developers to enjoy gaming during their “research”. If rumors about the N1/N1X launch are true, then it would put NVIDIA in a bad light if they kept the system locked for long while knowing it plays games easily.
Still, for $4000, this is a terrible gaming investment.
