GeForce RTX 5050 connected to camping freezer gains 23% performance

Can’t believe we are reporting on an extreme overclocking attempt on RTX 5050, using a camping freezer.

We like TrashBench runs because they are out of control in a good way. The channel uses cheap hardware, often weird cooling solutions and the viedos are short. Since he uses unusual cooling and cheap hardware, it’s probably much easier to copy than extreme OC using $3000 GPUs.

TrashBench grabbed a budget Gigabyte RTX 5050 , shunt-modded the card to remove its power limits, and dropped the cooling loop into a portable Techni-Ice camping freezer. The loop uses a glycol mix, which lets the GPU run far below ambient temperature. During benchmarks, reported core temps hovered between about -12°C and 15°C, depending on load.

Stock boost on this RTX 5050 sits at around 2820 MHz. With the freezer and shunt mod in place, TrashBench managed a sustained 3468 MHz , which is roughly a 23%uplift . That was enough to push the GB207 chip to the top of the 3DMark charts for this GPU: Time Spy climbed from 10,211 points at stock to 12,058 points. Port Royal rose from 6,131 to 7,162, while Heaven improved from 6,792 to 7,953.

On paper the GPU only reports around 78W of power draw, but that figure is meaningless here, since the shunt mod disables accurate monitoring in exchange for higher headroom.

So perhaps other reviewers were too harsh on the RTX 5050, the card still has some hidden potential if you like camping, I guess.
