Epic Games and Unity announce partnership

What seemed to start with a tweet by Tim Sweeney about two weeks ago has just been confirmed on stage during Unite 2025 in Barcelona. The companies behind the most popular game engines have announced a new partnership.
Unity and Epic Games have announced a partnership that will let developers publish Unity-built games directly into Fortnite and connect to the Fortnite Creator Economy. The deal gives Unity developers access to a platform with more than 500 million registered accounts, with revenue sharing handled through Epic’s creator program.
The collaboration was unveiled at Unite 2025 in Barcelona. Unity confirmed that developers will be able to submit Unity games into Fortnite starting next year, extending what is currently possible with Unreal Editor for Fortnite and creator-made experiences on the platform. Exact launch timing and technical requirements will be detailed in 2026.

Unity also plans to add Unreal Engine support to its cross-platform commerce platform. Unreal developers will be able to manage digital catalogs, payment providers, web shops, pricing, promotions, and live operations through Unity’s commerce tools across PC, mobile, and web, with support scheduled to roll out early next year.
Unity CEO Matt Bromberg said the partnership is aimed at giving game creators more options and keeping systems open, while Epic CEO Tim Sweeney framed the move as part of building an “open metaverse” where companies work together instead of running isolated platforms. More details on the partnership and product roadmap are expected in 2026.
