ASUS rolls out AGESA 1.2.7.0 BIOS for AM5 800 series, prepares Zen 5 desktop APUs

AMD Ryzen 9000G launch at CES very likely

ASUS has released new UEFI updates for its AM5 800 series motherboards with AGESA ComboAM5 PI 1.2.7.0. The latest public BIOS builds are described as improving compatibility with various CPUs and devices, without naming any specific processors.

The same AGESA branch first appeared in beta form in October and was quickly linked to AMD’s next wave of Zen 5 desktop APUs. SMU checker entries for ComboAM5 PI 1.2.7.0 list new CPUID 00B60Fxx along with SMU version 101.55.0, which firmware tools tie to Krackan Point and Strix Point. These updates add fresh microcode not only for the new APUs but also for existing Granite Ridge and other AM5 chips.

Current leaks suggest that Krackan Point will cover the lower end of the stack with 6 core and 8 core SKUs, while Strix Point will scale up to 10 core and 12 core parts. Both families are based on Zen 5 and integrate RDNA 3.5 graphics, with configurations that correspond to Radeon 840M, 860M, 880M and 890M class iGPUs.

AMD has not announced anything on Ryzen 9000G series yet. It seems, though, that AMD has set a pattern of announcing new waves of Ryzen CPUs at CES, so if there’s a place where these new processors should be announced, it will likely be in 5 to 6 weeks in Las Vegas.
