JSAUX preps custom Steam Machine panels, dbrand teases Companion Cube skin

Steam Machines customizations incoming

Accessory maker JSAUX is preparing front panel screens for Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine console. The company is working on E Ink and LCD versions that replace the stock magnetic faceplate. JSAUX has not shared pricing or a release date yet, but the panels are presented as add-ons that should arrive around the system launch in 2026.

JSAUX first asked fans to vote on three display types in a community poll that listed E Ink, dot-matrix, and LCD options. The current renders highlight E Ink and dot-matrix versions, which suggests those two are the focus for the first wave of panels. The Steam Machine front cover is designed to be swappable, so a low power status display fits the hardware concept without changing the rest of the chassis.

Valve already showed what this kind of mod can do. During the Steam Machine reveal, the company demonstrated a prototype E Ink front panel that displays live CPU and GPU load plus fan speed. Valve told press this panel is only for internal testing and is not planned for sale, which leaves room for third-party vendors such as JSAUX to offer their own versions.

Dbrand has also teased a Portal-inspired Companion Cube shell for the console (pictured in the header) planned as a limited edition product with a 2026 release window.
