Ryzen 7 9800X3D drops to $449 in the US, the top gaming CPU

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D has received its first broad price cut in the US, dropping from its original $479 price to $449 at major retailers such as Amazon. Prices in Europe and the UK have already been sliding for months, with the processor falling below its 449 pound launch price to around 399 pounds in some offers, so a US adjustment was expected.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D is an 8 core 16 thread Zen 5 desktop CPU with a 4.7 GHz base clock and up to 5.2 GHz boost, rated at 120 W TDP. It uses second generation 3D V Cache with 96 MB of L3 cache stacked on the main die, for 104 MB of total cache, and targets the AM5 platform with DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 support. The chip ships without a cooler, so buyers still need a separate AM5 compatible cooler for a full build.
In gaming benchmarks this CPU remains at the top of the charts. Reviews show Ryzen 7 9800X3D clearly ahead of Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K and earlier Core i9 flagships, with reports of around 20%+ leads in many titles and even larger margins in minimum frame rates. Reveiwers describe it as the best gaming processor you can buy right now, and there is still no direct gaming focused answer from Intel that can match its combination of smooth frame pacing and power efficiency at this price point. Not even the upcoming Core Ultra 9 290K Plus will change the situation for Intel.
