64GB DDR5-6000 memory kits now priced near Radeon RX 9070 XT and above PlayStation 5

PC DDR5 memory pricing is getting out of hand

In the wake of recent memory price updates, we have an interesting story from Tom’s Hardware. Their comparison shows that the cost of a popular 64 GB DDR5 kit (two 32 GB modules) is now higher than a PlayStation 5, and that is after a discount from Newegg.

The G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) DDR5-6000 , is now listed at $599 after a “price cut” from $639.99. The retailer also offers a promo code that takes $20 off this memory. This is not the cheapest or fastest memory on Newegg, but this specific kit has AMD EXPO support.

For Black Friday, gamers can buy a similar kit with Intel XMP support and a higher 6400 MT/s speed for a total of $450 after the promo code. So not all kits are as expensive as a Radeon RX 9070 XT (currently at $599), but the pricing is getting close.

What is true is that even after promo codes, the $450 kit is already more expensive than a PlayStation 5, which has recently dropped to $399 for Black Friday. The price also matches that of the disc edition, which costs exactly $450.

Lisan al Gaib shows that pricing for 64GB memory kits has skyrocketed from $150 to $500 in just two months:

I checked pricing on 2×32 GB kits, and it seems that those below $400 are disappearing quickly, while price trackers are not yet updated for all listings. There are still some kits below that price, such as Patriot DDR5-6000 Viper memory , but the direction of pricing is clear.
