Framework has updated some of its component store listings, in reaction to fluid conditions that have affected computer memory supplies. In a reply to Jeff Geerling's musings regarding recent ludicrous price hikes, the North American modular PC specialist provided a short explanation: "the memory market is in a bad spot. We haven't changed our memory pricing, but we did have to delist standalone memory from our Marketplace to head off scalpers and preserve inventory for people buying it with our DIY Edition laptops." Over the past week and a half, several tech large players have started shifting production priorities.
At the time of writing, Framework's marketplace does not display any available stock of DDR5 or DDR4 SODIMMs. Every relevant item is marked with a "coming soon" tag. The company's prioritization of DIY laptop customers is a noble gesture, but this morning's social media activity also disclosed some troubling developments: "our memory costs from our suppliers are increasing substantially though, so it is likely we will need to increase memory pricing soon."
