AORUS and Corsair beat another memory world record

DDR5-13530 MT/s is not for average daily use, obviously.

As you might have noticed, we stopped reporting on most memory overclocking world records. There is not much value in repeating that someone has pushed the frequency by another 10 MHz. Yesterday was different though. A new milestone pushed DDR5 past 13,500 MT/s for the first time.

The new record, DDR5-13530, was set on GIGABYTE’s Z890 AORUS TACHYON ICE motherboard by overclockers Sergmann and HiCookie, using Corsair DDR5 memory and an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K desktop processor. GIGABYTE and Intel are treating this as a showcase of what their memory controller, PCB design, and DRAM modules can do under extreme conditions, and Intel has released a detailed video that walks through the process.

The video confirms how much work sits behind a single entry on the leaderboard. The team screened around 50 CPUs and about 20 DDR5 DIMMs before picking a combination that could handle these clocks. Both the CPU and memory were cooled with liquid nitrogen, with heaters and insulation used around the socket and memory slots to avoid condensation at temperatures down to around −196 °C. The Z890 AORUS TACHYON ICE itself was designed for this use case, with a rotated memory layout, stripped-down feature set, and physical controls that simplify extreme overclocking.

This kind of record does not reflect a normal desktop or gaming setup. The run is done with a single DDR5 module, very light CPU load, often with disabled cores (in this case 4 threads) and a minimal operating system, all tuned only to reach and validate the highest possible memory frequency. It tells you how far the memory controller, PCB and DRAM can be pushed in a lab, not what you should expect from an XMP profile or a daily overclock.
