Intel's "Arrow Lake" Core Ultra 200S series of processors were launched over a year ago, and Phoronix recently conducted Linux tests to compare their original performance and power consumption to the current situation. The results are promising for Intel's CPUs, which have not been particularly popular among DIY PC builders. According to the geometric mean of all benchmarks, Phoronix found that the high-end Intel Core Ultra 9 285K has shown a noticeable performance improvement of approximately 9% after a year of software optimizations.
What's particularly interesting is that this performance gain was achieved while using only 85% of the power that was consumed in October last year, representing a 15% reduction. This suggests that Intel has optimized the software to not only reduce power consumption and heat output but also to extract an additional 9% performance from the "Arrow Lake-S" silicon. In these Linux tests, no workload experienced any regressions, indicating consistent results across a wide range of use cases, including code compilation, compression, web performance, HPC, simulation, and many others.
