GMKtec has been making Mini PCs for years now. They are based in the technology hub of Shenzhen, China, have maintained strategic partnerships with AMD, Intel & Microsoft, and currently offer a wide array of solutions, from entry-level to enthusiast-grade designs based on mobility chips from AMD & Intel.

While we have looked at several GMKtec Mini PC options in the past, ranging from AMD to Intel CPUs, the company recently introduced a new Intel model, , which features an Intel i7-12700H and is priced at $300-$450 US.

GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC - Specifications At A Glance

The GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC is equipped with the Intel Core i7-12700H CPU.  Our unit was decked out with the Core i7-12700H, DDR4-3200 32 GB (16 GB x2) SO-DIMM memory, and a 1 TB PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 M.2 drive. There are two M.2 slots, so you can get up to 16 TB (8 TB each) capacity for your storage needs.

Coming to the specifications, the GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC features the Intel Core i7-12700H CPU, which features 14 cores in a 6 P-Core and 8 E-Core configuration, 24 MB of L3 cache, and a boost clock of up to 4.70 GHz. The CPU has a base TDP of 45W and a maximum turbo power of up to 115W. Alder Lake CPUs are great for productivity and multi-threading tasks thanks to their extra E-Cores.

For the GPU, the Intel Core i7-12700H is packing an Iris Xe chip, which features a total of 96 EUs and clocks up to 1.4 GHz. This is a fairly old integrated graphics solution that does support the latest APIs, such as DX12.1, OpenGL 4.6, and OpenCL 3.0, but Intel has released far better solutions with its Core Ultra series in the form of Arc iGPUs.

Other specs for the GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC include 32 GB DDR4-3200 (Dual-Channel) memory. The Mini PC also comes with a 16 GB memory option and can be upgraded to 64 GB. Storage comes in the form of two M.2 2280 (2 x Gen3 x4) slots that support up to 8 TB capacities (each). One of these slots is populated by a 1 TB SSD (Gen3x4).

I/O on the GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC includes a 3.5mm combo jack, two USB 10 Gbps ports on the front, one USB 10 Gbps port on the back, one USB 2.0 port, one USB Type-C port, two HDMI ports, & a 2.5GbE LAN port.

GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC - Unboxing & A Closer Look

The GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC comes in a silver colored cardboard package, which has a simplistic look with a "GMKtec" logo on the front.

The back of the box has some basic specifications that list the specific configuration for this model. We got the Intel Core i7-12700H variant with 32 GB of memory and 1 TB of storage capacity.

Within the box, you get a guide and a warranty holder alongside two separate boxes, which contain the power cord, an HDMI cable, and the adapter.

The adapter is a 120W brick, which is more than enough to power the M3 Ultra.

GMKtec's Mini PCs really do stand out from the rest of the market offerings, with a stylish dual-tone design. The front features a glossy black colour palette, while the exterior shroud is silver.

There are exhaust vents on the sides of the Mini PC. These ensure that the PC receives adequate airflow and remains cool with higher heat dissipation through the vents.

The front I/O on the GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC includes 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports and a power button with an LED.

The back I/O of the GMKtec M3 Ultra features two HDMI outputs for display, the power "DC" port, 1 x USB2 port, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 port, and a single 2.5GbE LAN port.

The sides have large vents that push air out of the chassis.

The interiors of the Mini PC can be accessed by removing the four screws at the bottom.

The two upgradable parts of the M3 Ultra include the memory, which includes two SO-DIMM slots that can hold up to 64 GB DDR4 capacities. And there are two M.2 slots, which can hold 8 TB capacities each for up to 16 TB of storage capacity.

For performance testing, we used the 45W power profile for the Intel Core i7-12700H when testing the GMKtec M6 Ultra Mini PC.

GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC - 1080p Integrated GPU Performance

For gaming, we tested a couple of the latest and most played esports titles, along with a mix of AAA titles at 1080p resolution. The performance was measured between the AMD Radeon 890M, Radeon 780, Radeon 680M, AMD Vega 8, Vega 7, Vega 6, Intel Iris Xe, and Intel Iris Xe-LP integrated graphics.

The following are the power and thermal numbers of the GMKtec M3 Ultra Mini PC using its 45W (Balanced profile).

Featuring the Intel Core i7-12700H, the GMKtec M3 Ultra offers great performance for productivity tasks thanks to its 14 cores. You can dial the memory up to 64 GB, and the cheaper DDR4 standard means that you won't have to spend a lot on memory upgrades. Two M.2 slots and a good array of IO capabilities are also decent on the M3 Ultra. In terms of pricing, the barebone variant for $299 is very decent, and you can get the rest of the components yourself for around $100 US, making it a viable productivity station for your needs.
