After weeks of teasers and anticipation , Qwertykeys has officially made the new QK65 MK3 mechanical keyboard available for pre-order . It's been known since the first teaser that the QK65 MK3 would launch with some cute retro gaming features and design cues—including a small customizable display, but the exact pricing, build, and kit were unknown until now. With the QK65 MK3 officially available for pre-order, Qwertykeys has unveiled all of the specifications and design details for the new premium wireless mechanical keyboard, including the price. The QK65 MK3 will start $199 as a barebones keyboard kit, which only includes the case, PCB—including the display and all its related hardware—your plate of choice, and stabilizers. If you buy a set of keycaps for an additional $14, you also get a free set of 70 Rye switches, which is a pretty good deal, since there are keycaps match the keyboard's theme, and a set of quality keycaps and switches could easily cost $50-100 elsewhere.
The QK65 MK3 is a 65% mechanical keyboard, meaning it features an arrow cluster, but no F row, num pad, or even a navigation cluster to the right of the alpha keys. It is available in five retro-inspired colors—spray coated Eclipse Grey, Retro White, Pink, or Green, and an anodized Basalt Grey—and buyers have the choice of an aluminium, polypropylene, or FR4 plates, which should deliver a range of typing experiences and sound profiles. Qwertykeys also revealed the functionality of the built-in display, which can play custom animations, show a screen with the time and an animated cat or dog that responds to your typing inputs, or let users play an "Animal Supermarket" typing mini-game. It can also be used to show system information, like battery life, connectivity or OS mode, and caps lock status. There are two low-profile knobs on the top right edge of the keyboard that control the OS and connectivity modes. The QK65 MK3 is also fully customizable in a custom VIA fork that has been tweaked to enable customization of the display, which means users will be able to create macros, remap keys, and customize the keyboard's per-key RGB backlighting.
