AMD Tech Portal Categorizes EPYC "Fire Range" & "Venice" Embedded CPU Families

Lately, AMD's Technical Information Portal has been updated with a few next-gen Embedded CPU families. Yesterday, InstLatX64 alerted the wider world to Team Red's new product categories. The noted PC hardware sleuth has kept a watchful eye on various AMD web presences, hoping for fresh signs of forthcoming tech. Six months ago, they stumbled upon official patch notes that identified a next-gen EPYC "Venice" processor series, seemingly based on "Zen 6" microarchitecture. The company's low-key publication of technical documentation confirms this information—an overall description reads as follows: "EPYC Embedded 'Venice' CPUs, which feature up to 96 Zen 6 x86 cores, PCIe Gen 6, and DDR5/MRDIMM." A "9006" series assignment is not present here, but experts believe that upcoming "Venice" chips will succeed current generation "Turin" (aka 9005, based on Zen 5) offerings.

The EPYC Embedded 2005 series sports the "Fire Range" codename, described as a: "next generation mid-range CPU family featuring up to 16x Zen 5 x86 cores, PCIe Gen 5, and DDR-5600 targeting networking, storage, and industrial (sans iGPUs) use cases." These processors could emerge in an existing format, InstLatX64 highlights the FL1 socket—thus pointing to the readily available Ryzen 9000HX " Fire Range " mobile chip design. Team Red's description of EPYC Embedded "Annapurna" processors does not include much technical information, so it is not clear whether these options will utilize "Zen 5" cores or something newer. The portal categorizes this mysterious family as: "highly integrated x86 CPU optimized for Network Control Planes that feature leading performance per Watt and performance per dollar for entry switches, routers, security appliances, and optical transport."
