Micron to Retire Crucial Consumer Brand

Micron has announced that it will exit the Crucial consumer business, ending retail and distribution sales of Crucial-branded memory and storage worldwide by the end of fiscal Q2, which closes in February 2026. Crucial SSDs and DRAM kits will continue to ship through consumer channels until then, and Micron says warranty service and support will remain in place for existing products.
For consumers and PC builders, this is a clear loss. Crucial has been one of the best known retail memory and SSD brands for almost three decades, often serving as a default choice for mainstream RAM upgrades and entry-level NVMe drives. Micron will keep selling Micron-branded enterprise products through commercial channels, but the Crucial logo will disappear from retail shelves once remaining inventory dries up.
Micron frames the move as a capacity and priority shift driven by AI. “ Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business to improve supply for our larger, strategic customers ,” said Sumit Sadana, EVP and Chief Business Officer at Micron Technology. The company is steering resources toward faster-growing segments such as data center and high-bandwidth memory, where AI servers are now soaking up a large share of global DRAM output.
Micron also notes that it aims to redeploy affected staff into open roles and calls the decision part of its “portfolio transformation” toward more profitable segments. For PC users, though, the message is simple: one of the few widely trusted memory and SSD brands is being retired to make room for AI and enterprise demand, and future choice in the consumer memory market will lean even more on remaining players.
