Segotep Claims TITANLOAD 12V-2x6 Cable Lowers Temperatures

Segotep, a Chinese company, has entered the " safer " 12V-2x6 cable arena. They claim that their brand-new Titanload contenders are designed to lower resistance and heat generation. Their basic option leverages 12A power pins, whilst the fancier "EX" variant enjoys 14A. A fair number of big name manufacturers and smaller outfits are engaged in a race to introduce the most robust 12V-2x6 cabling solution, following a plethora of meltdown and black smoke-producing incidents. Unlucky owners of faulty products have reported damaged power supplies, graphics cards—going all the way back to the initial 12VHPWR standard. Segotep's "high-current cable power supply solutions" are about to be launched, following an evaluation period.

According to their own tests, an unnamed "standard" 12V-2x6 cable—utilizing 9.3A pins—operated at much higher temperatures when compared to the two Titanload products. The Intel ATX 3.0 (PCI-SIG) spec requires a minimum 9.2A current rating per pin/position on 16-pin connectors. A Segotep blog concludes that their: "12A high-flow-rate connector easily handles the full load power of the 12V-2x6 standard, while the EX 14A solution significantly increases the load capacity. Both solutions have load temperatures far below the material's limit temperature, directly and significantly extending the lifespan of the connector and the graphics card power supply module, fundamentally reducing long-term risks caused by thermal stress." A heap of data points—also kindly presented in graph form—demonstrate superiority across the board. The dreaded "user error" factor could prove fatal for involved hardware, once finalized units reach end customers, but the manufacturer's "brute-force" approach (as interpreted by Tom's Hardware) offers plenty of wiggle room.
