OneXPlayer pauses “Strix Halo” APEX handheld sales as memory and SSD costs climb

APEX temporarily ‘unlaunched’

OneXPlayer has halted new APEX orders while it reconciles inventory and negotiates updated pricing with its memory and SSD suppliers. In a message to backers, the company says current stock is fully allocated to domestic and international pre-sale customers and that sales will resume only after a full component review and price confirmation are complete.

This pause follows a November 27 update in which OneXPlayer said all APEX configurations would go up by 200 USD due to rising DRAM and SSD prices, with a 96-hour grace period at launch pricing. That increase has not yet been applied, and the new statement suggests the company is reassessing its numbers.

APEX sits at the top end of the Windows handheld market in terms of specifications. The device is offered with AMD Ryzen AI Max Pro 385 or Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APUs, an 8 inch 120 Hz VRR display, and LPDDR5X memory configurations that scale from 32 GB up to 128 GB. Storage uses M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSDs, with tiers up to 2 TB, and certain bundles pair the handheld with an 85 Wh external battery pack and optional liquid cooling. OneXPlayer also advertises cooling headroom for sustained high TDP operation, which is key for the Strix Halo based Ryzen AI Max+ 395.

Official launch pricing listed the cheapest variant at $1399, this version only had 32GB memory so this model is likely to see the smallest price increase once the company settles on the final price. The most expensive variant costs $2299, and given the announced $200 price hike, that would make it a $2499 device.

For now, APEX backers with existing orders appear safe, since OneXPlayer states that current inventory covers all placed pledges. The open question is how far the next price table will move for future buyers. Here’s the full message:

APEX Sales Temporarily Paused
APEX sales are temporarily paused as we complete inventory reconciliation and confirm new pricing with our memory and SSD suppliers (due to ongoing cost increases). This process may take a few days. We will notify everyone as soon as sales reopen.

Dear backers,

We would like to share an important update regarding APEX availability.

Our current inventory has been fully allocated to all existing pre-sale orders, including both domestic and international backers. To ensure that every confirmed order is accurately matched with the required components, we are temporarily pausing APEX sales while we complete a full inventory review.

At the same time, we need a bit more time to communicate with our memory and SSD suppliers, as the prices of these components continue to rise. These discussions are essential to properly prepare for the next phase of sales.

Once this process is completed, we will publish an update immediately.

Thank you sincerely for your patience, understanding, and continued support.

Thank you for standing with us.
