AMD's Ryzen 7 9850X3D 3D V-Cache CPU continues to leak , with the latest benchmark in PassMark showing a 20% uplift over the 7800X3D.
Well, well, it looks like we have a brand new benchmark leak of the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU, and this time within the PassMark benchmark. The chip has been tested in both single and multi-core tests, which gives us an idea of the kind of performance jump users should expect when getting the 9850X3D over the existing 9800X3D and the older yet still popular 7800X3D.
Starting with a recap of what to expect, the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D 3D V-Cache CPU is going to be another 8-core and 16-thread variant with a 120W TDP and 96 MB of L3 cache. The specifications of this chip look very similar to the existing Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU . But the biggest change of this chip will offer faster 5.6 GHz clocks, a 400 MHz increase versus the 9800X3D. This should mark a major performance bump, further boosting the capabilities of AMD's 8-Core 3D V-Cache offerings.
- Ryzen 7 9850X3D
- 8 Zen 5 Cores
- 96 MB of Cache (Single X3D CCD)
- Up To 5.6 GHz Clocks
- Up To 120W TDP
AMD is also using its 2nd Gen AMD V-Cache technology across all of its brand-new "Zen 5" Ryzen 9000 Desktop CPUs. This new V-Cache design runs cooler, faster, and supports overclocking. It is possible that the new V-Cache design helped AMD to finally develop a proper "retail" dual-X3D chip .
The following is how the performance stacks up within the PassMark Software benchmark:
0
9000
18000
27000
36000
45000
54000
Looking at the performance figures, the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D sits at 5% faster in both single and multi-core tests versus the 9800X3D. This uplift comes from the higher 5.6 GHz clock speeds, a 7.6% increase vs the 5.2 GHz on the 9800X3D. Versus the Zen 4-based Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D ends up at over 20% faster, which is impressive and should lead to overall faster performance, and not just faster in gaming.
Versus the AM4 Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the 9850X3D scores a lead of 43% in single-core and up to 48% in multi-core tests. So users upgrading from the older AM4 socket to the newer AM5 platform and the Ryzen 7 9850X3D should see a vast improvement. Plus, with the 2nd Gen 3D V-Cache, users can expect better gaming performance and a cooler chip.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D is expected to launch at CES 2026 alongside the higher-end Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, which should pack dual 3D V-Cache dies, so expect more information soon.
