Dual-Mode Evnia monitor supports 1000Hz at HD (720p) resolution

Philips is joining the high refresh rate race with the Evnia 27M2N5500XD, a new 27-inch gaming monitor built around a 1440p panel that can run at up to 500 Hz. The display also supports a special low-resolution mode that boosts refresh all the way to 1,000 Hz at 720p, pushing past recent 720 Hz OLED esports screens from ASUS and ViewSonic.
The screen was shown in China alongside AOC’s Agon AGP277QK, which uses a similar dual-mode panel and sits under the same umbrella as Philips. Both models are aimed at competitive players who prioritise motion clarity and input lag over image detail. The 1,000 Hz mode trades sharpness for speed, while the native 500 Hz at 1440p is likely to be the primary setting for most users.

According to details shared by Chinese media, the Evnia 27M2N5500XD offers a quoted 1 ms GtG response time and a 2,000:1 static contrast ratio, pointing to a high-contrast IPS-type panel rather than OLED. The monitor is factory-calibrated to a colour accuracy of ΔE < 2 and carries VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification . That puts it closer to a fast, colour-accurate esports display than a pure TN-style speed showcase.

Pricing and availability have not yet been announced, but a 1440p panel that can reach 500 Hz in native resolution and 1,000 Hz in a downscaled mode will place this model among the fastest gaming monitors once it reaches retail.
Honestly, I’m not a professional gamer, but I would love to hear input from some on whether they would really use 720p resolution in 2026.
