Around late summer, rumors emerged about AMD leadership notifying its motherboard manufacturing partners about an upcoming discontinuation of the venerable B650 chipset. At the time, alleged "clearance plans" targeted an October 2025 end window—clearing the way for B850 dominance. The two generations have overlapped, in terms of availability at retail, but Team Red seemingly wanted to elevate the newer design's standing. Fast-forward to late November, with conflicting information turning up on the Chinese Board Channels. A short report described a new lease of life for the mid-range-focused AM5 platform: "AMD has confirmed that the B650 chipset will not be discontinued and that motherboard manufacturers will continue to purchase it. The B650 and B850 series will continue to complement each other to meet customer demand."

Despite the more advanced B850 platform offering fancier features, a segment of budget-conscious PC builders have not bothered following the upgrade path to newer board chipsets. After all, three-year-old B650 tech offers support for the latest Ryzen processors. The Board Channel insider article posits that current market fluctuations have influenced Team Red's older product strategies: "considering the significant increase in memory prices and the resulting impact on demand, major motherboard manufacturers are considering adjusting their purchasing and mass production plans for AMD chipsets, particularly for the B650 product line. Factories may increase their purchases of AMD B650 chipsets and initiate additional contract manufacturing capacity."
