GeForce RTX 5090 D V2 now cheaper than 256GB memory
Chinese memory brand Asgard has put two high-capacity DDR5 kits on sale that now cost more than top gaming GPUs. The new Thor 192 GB and Valkyrie 256 GB kits have appeared on JD, with the 256 GB Valkyrie model currently listed at 16,999 RMB. For comparison, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 D V2, a China-only flagship, carries an official MSRP of 16,499 RMB, so this memory kit is roughly 500 RMB more expensive than that graphics card.
The Thor kit offers 192 GB through four 48 GB modules, while the Valkyrie kit provides 256 GB with four 64 GB sticks. Both kits are rated at 6000 MT/s and use SK Hynix M-die ICs. The Thor set is configured with CL28-36-36-72 timings, while the Valkyrie kit runs at CL32-45-45-90, targeting users who want maximum capacity on mainstream desktop platforms.

On JD, the 192 GB Thor kit is listed at 8,599 RMB, which works out to roughly 1,200 USD at current exchange rates. The 256 GB Valkyrie kit originally launched at 14,599 RMB, or about 2,060 USD, but Asgard has already pushed the price up to 16,999 RMB, around 2,400 USD. This shows how fast DRAM vendors can adjust retail prices when demand is strong and supply is tight.
For the US market, PC Part Picker doesn’t list any 256GB kit, but Corsair’s 192GB kit (four 48GB modules) is already at $2249 + so the price is also exceeding the RTX 5090 MSRP there as well:

Only a few months ago, 192 GB and 256 GB DDR5 kits could often be found for under 1,000 USD. The current AI boom and ongoing DRAM shortages have changed that, giving memory makers room to lift prices on both consumer and server products. With companies such as Micron moving away from parts of the consumer segment , the remaining manufacturers now carry more of the burden of keeping supply available.
