New Divinity game at The Game Awards’?

We have not followed all the news about the upcoming Game Awards, but one thing definitely got our attention. The desert statue teased by Geoff Keighley has been discussed extensively, but no one could pin a game or franchise name to what this statue is actually supposed to promote.
However, speculation around The Game Awards’ desert statue now has a clear front runner. A report has linked the sculpture, to new trademarks for the Divinity franchise filed in Europe today. The match between one of the new icons and the glowing symbol on the statue suggests the reveal on stage this week will involve Larian Studios’ RPG series.

MP1st spotted three filings at the EUIPO: a refreshed Divinity logo and two related symbols. One shows a web-like pattern, while another is a circular shape with long spikes that align closely with the illuminated pattern on the statue’s front. The filings use the same legal representative as Larian’s previous trademarks, which strengthens the assumption that the teaser is for a new Divinity project rather than God of War, Diablo or other early fan guesses.

Divinity is a fantasy role playing game series by Larian Studios. The games are story driven RPGs set in the world of Rivellon, with choices, dialogue, and party based combat at the core. Divinity has been on hold since Divinity: Original Sin 2 launched in 2017, after which Larian focused on Baldur’s Gate 3 and its post launch support, including a Game of the Year win at The Game Awards 2023. The studio has since said it is moving away from the Dungeons & Dragons license to concentrate on its own properties and confirmed it has multiple projects in development.
MP1st even points to the Black Ring faction and the God King from Divinity lore as possible thematic matches for the statue’s demonic, spider like design, though that part remains described as speculation.
One part of the speculation has now been addressed directly by Larian. Director of publishing Michael Douse has told fans there are no current plans for a new Divinity: Original Sin 3 and that the studio will talk about its next project when it is ready to show it, while also noting that a PS5 version of Original Sin 2 was “not meant to be announced yet”. His comments narrow the field but do not rule out a different Divinity game or a broader revival of the series, so the statue and the trademarks still point toward the franchise returning in some form at The Game Awards.
There aren't currently any plans for a new Divinity Original Sin 3 game but once we are ready to show what we've been working on we will 🙏
