First RGB Mini-LED gaming monitor coming

HKC is teasing what it calls the first RGB Mini LED gaming monitor, likely to debut at an upcoming CES 2026 trade show. The company is promoting a new backlight system with separate red, green and blue emitters instead of the usual white Mini LED array behind the LCD panel.
For users, that design should boost color saturation at high brightness, expand the color gamut and give finer control over HDR highlights, while still keeping LCD strengths like high peak brightness and no burn in risk. In practice, this could help bright neon effects, sunsets and game HUD elements keep their color instead of washing out when the backlight ramps up.

If HKC also pairs this backlight with many local dimming zones, the monitor could offer stronger contrast than current Mini LED gaming displays, though it will still behave like LCD, so some blooming and raised blacks are possible. The real gains are likely to be in color volume and more consistent HDR performance across different brightness levels.
So far (and if memory serves me well) RGB Mini LED has mostly appeared in TVs, demo panels and a few large commercial displays, not in desktop monitors. If HKC can ship this product at scale, it would be the first time PC users get a monitor that combines Mini LED style dimming with a full RGB backlight, instead of the white LED plus color filter approach used today.
