AYANEO launches its first gaming phone which looks like old Xperia phones

AYANEO has announced Pocket PLAY, a smartphone with a built-in game controller hidden under a sliding display. The company describes it as a device that combines a mobile phone and a handheld console for retro-style gaming.
The phone uses a side-slide design: push the screen up, and a full controller appears, with a D-pad, ABXY buttons, and dual touchpads. AYANEO says the layout is based on its handhelds, aiming for familiar controls and short learning time. The idea is simple – use it as a regular phone, slide it open when you want proper gamepad controls.

Right now there are almost no hard specs. AYANEO has not confirmed the processor, battery, display size, or even the operating system, although the brand already ships Android handhelds such as the Pocket S and Pocket Air, so software is not new territory for them. We do not usually report on phones, but AYANEO is a handheld maker first, so we are curious to see how many of its handheld ideas show up here. The side-slide form factor instantly reminds me of my old Xperia X1i, but Xperia Play is probably the closer comparison, but I never owned that one. Pocket PLAY is listed as “coming soon”.
