Larian Announces Divinity at TGA 2025, a Continuation of its Fantasy RPG Series That’s Bigger Than Baldur’s Gate

The internet remains undefeated in figuring out hints ahead of The Game Awards , and this year's big, secretive tease was a giant statue in the Mojave Desert that could be described as a demonic monolith. A patent pointed to Larian Studios, which pointed to a new game in its Divinity franchise, and tonight at The Game Awards 2025, a new trailer confirmed what everyone suspected.

If you didn't just discover Larian Studios with the release of Baldur's Gate 3 , you'll know that the Divinity series is the bigger of the two when it comes to the fantasy RPG franchises Larian has under its belt. Once it was clear that Larian wasn't going to be making Baldur's Gate 4 as its next project , a return to the Divinity series is what many players suspected, and those suspicions were clearly well-placed.

The trailer is just a cinematic look at the game, but it is an excellent trailer in terms of giving you a sense of the atmosphere and tone that Larian is going for with this new release. It's not been given a number, but it'll be the seventh game in the Divinity series overall.

What's interesting about this announcement, though, is the timing. Larian is still pulling away from Baldur's Gate 3, and as far as we know, hasn't stopped working on it entirely. There's also the fact that c hief executive officer Swen Vincke spoke about their next project last year , saying, " it needs a lot more time in the oven. By the time it's going to be finished, it's going to be so big! For the time being, you're going to have to wait ."

So work on Divinity must be early on, and while an announcement now could be an effort in recruitment as it tries to grow the development team to build Divinity, it could also mean that Larian will take the same approach it took with Baldur's Gate 3, which was to release it as an early access game first, and continue developing it to 1.0 alongside players.

Whatever the case, we'll probably have to wait quite a while to find out. For all of our coverage of The Game Awards 2025, check out our hub page here.
