LG UltraGear 27GX790B-B debuts with a 720Hz mode, but only at 720p
LG has listed the UltraGear 27GX790B-B in China as a 26.5-inch QHD OLED gaming monitor built around LG Display’s 4th generation “Primary RGB Tandem” WOLED panel. The headline feature is its dual-mode refresh: 540Hz at 2560×1440, or 720Hz after dropping resolution to 1280×720.
The 720Hz setting is not available at the native 1440p resolution. It is a separate mode that trades detail for a higher refresh rate, aimed at competitive titles where clarity and input response matter more than pixel count. (I am still yet to hear of anyone using it.)

Connectivity is another focus point. LG’s China listing calls out DisplayPort 2.1 and dual HDMI 2.1, and it references up to 80 Gbps bandwidth for DisplayPort , while also listing DSC support in the spec table. Whether the retail unit runs full UHBR20 matters if you want to avoid DSC at 540Hz, and LG’s earlier UltraGear OLED launches have shown that “DP 2.1” can ship with a lower link rate than some expected.

“Tandem OLED” here refers to LG Display’s Primary RGB Tandem, a 4-stack OLED structure that stacks multiple emission layers to raise efficiency and peak brightness versus prior WOLED generations. LG rates the 27GX790B-B at up to 335 nits in SDR and up to 1500 nits peak HDR (small window), with 99.5% DCI-P3 coverage, alongside DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification.

LG lists support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible, plus VESA AdaptiveSync. Pricing and wider availability have not been detailed yet, and more regional information may surface closer to CES 2026.
