Minisforum launches BD895i SE MoDT motherboard with 16-core Ryzen 9 8945HX launched at $424

The cheapest way to buy a 16-core CPU with motherboard

MINISFORUM has started listing its BD895i SE MoDT Mini-ITX motherboard overseas. The board comes with an onboard AMD Ryzen 9 8945HX and a bundled cooling assembly. This is the CPU that we know as Dragon Range Refresh, which was announced back in January as an update to Ryzen 7000HX series primarily for gaming laptops. It looks like it will now extend to other systems, such as this “mobile on desktop” platform from Minisforum.

Like the older BD795i SE, the BD895i SE keeps the same basic formula: 2x DDR5-5200 SO-DIMM slots (up to 96GB), 2x M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4, a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for a discrete GPU, plus an M.2 2230 E-Key slot for Wi-Fi.

For Minisforum, this product is basically a small refresh as well, they are claiming up to a 7% increase in single-core performance and less than 1% in multi-core. However, on paper both CPUs offer identical specs.

Rear I/O includes USB-C (DP Alt), two USB-A 5Gbps, two USB-A 2.0, 2.5GbE, plus HDMI 2.1 and DP 1.4 for display output. The official specs also list Radeon 610M as the iGPU.

The comparison point is straightforward: BD795i SE uses Ryzen 9 7945HX, while BD895i SE moves to Ryzen 9 8945HX. Both are 16-core / 32-thread parts, and MINISFORUM lists the 8945HX at up to 5.4 GHz.
