Ten-Year-Old “Durability Test” Destroys 50 Samsung NVMe SSDs in One Box
A post in the Vietnamese Facebook group “Build PC” shows a painful sight for any parts seller: a table full of Samsung M.2 NVMe SSDs bent and snapped after a ten-year-old tried to “test durability.”
The PC enthusiast and dad wrote that he had just stocked up while RAM, graphics cards, SSDs, and CPUs were getting more expensive, then his son broke the whole box. The post lists “NVMe SSD 512GB” at about 2 million VND each, with 50 units in the box. Photos show dozens of banana curved M.2 sticks laid out in rows.

Tom’s Hardware identified the drives as Samsung PM991a 512GB models in the M.2 2280 form factor. Using the price cited in the Facebook post, they estimated the damage around $3,800, close to $4,000.
There is a small chance some of the SSDs could still function. On many 2280 drives, the main components sit on the shorter “front” section, while the rest is mostly bare PCB.

Either way, it shows how quickly “small” items can turn into a big loss, even before you factor in today’s NAND pricing. As for the lesson, it is simple: keep SSDs out of children’s reach.
