HDMI LA to showcase HDMI 2.2 Ultra96 Cable at CES 2026
HDMI Licensing Administrator (HDMI LA) says it will bring a set of gaming demos to CES 2026. The booth will compare three HDMI cable classes, including early Ultra96 HDMI Cable prototypes tied to HDMI 2.2.
Ultra96 is the new certified cable class introduced with the HDMI 2.2 specification in June this year , rated for up to 96 Gbps. HDMI.org also uses “Ultra96” as a feature label for devices that support 64, 80, or 96 Gbps modes. The new standard is almost certainly coming to next-gen GPUs, in fact, a leak confirms such support for AMD RDNA5 family already.

- High-Refresh Rate Performance – Showcasing the visual experience of a 500 Hz gaming monitor powered by both an Xbox Series X and a high-performance, gaming-optimized PC, delivering ultra-smooth motion and lightning-fast responsiveness.
- Portable Console Big-Screen Gaming – Demonstrating how today’s popular portable gaming consoles—including the Nintendo Switch 2 and Atari Gamestation Go—seamlessly connect to HDTVs using HDMI technology for big-screen gameplay, group entertainment, and immersive audio through eARC-enabled soundbars or multi-speaker systems.
- Modernized Retro Gaming Fun – Showing the latest retro-style gaming systems connected via HDMI cables for nostalgic gameplay upgraded with UltraHD video and audio on large displays.
One of the demos is a 500 Hz gaming monitor driven by an Xbox Series X and a gaming PC. Xbox Series X lists an HDMI 2.1 port, so the console side of that setup is not an HDMI 2.2 source. HDMI LA will also show Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable (up to 48 Gbps) and Premium High Speed HDMI Cable (up to 18 Gbps) as part of the cable comparisons.
HDMI LA also lists VRR, ALLM, and QFT as part of the gaming feature set shown at the booth. HDMI 2.2 adds Latency Indication Protocol (LIP) for tighter A/V sync in multi-hop paths such as through receivers or soundbars. HDMI Forum released version 2.2 in June 2025. HDMI.org lists HDMI 2.2 bandwidth up to 96 Gbps and support up to 16K60, plus uncompressed 4K240 and 8K60 full-chroma options.
