Mozilla names Anthony Enzor-DeMeo CEO, says Firefox will become an AI browser
Mozilla has appointed Anthony Enzor-DeMeo as CEO of Mozilla Corporation as of December 16, 2025. He replaces interim CEO Laura Chambers, who is returning to Mozilla’s board.
In his first message as CEO, Enzor-DeMeo said Firefox will “ evolve into a modern AI browser ” over the next three years. He also said AI should be optional, and easy to disable , with clear controls for privacy and data use.
Mozilla has already been talking about browser AI work in public. In November, it outlined “AI Window” as an opt-in feature area inside Firefox. The Verge reports Mozilla is planning an “AI Mode” in 2026, with a choice of models, including open-source options and Mozilla-hosted cloud choices.

User backlash is showing up across social platforms and comment threads. A common view is that people use Firefox to avoid the AI push in other browsers, and do not want new AI features added at all. Windows Central highlights posts calling Mozilla “out of touch,” and threads on Reddit echo worries about bloat and unwanted direction changes.
Other complaints focus on trust and control. Users question what data an AI feature might need, whether any processing happens off-device, and whether “optional” stays optional once features ship and defaults change. Hacker News comments also raise concerns about big-provider AI integration and the browser becoming a funnel to hosted assistants.
