Sapphire RX 9070 XT Phantom Link launching soon
Sapphire’s RX 9070 XT Phantom Link design has been public since Computex, yet it still has not shown up at retail almost six months later. A new Bilibili unboxing changes the picture because the creator appears to have a boxed, retail-ready unit, which points to a release that is still on the table.
Phantom Link is Sapphire’s added connector intended to work with ASUS BTF2.0 boards that place a high-power GPU connector behind the PCIe slot. The card still keeps the regular 12V-2×6 power input, so it can be installed in a standard build, while also supporting cleaner cable routing on compatible BTF2.0 setups.

Sapphire also built in a conflict indicator and protection behavior. If both Phantom Link and the 12V-2×6 connector are used at the same time, the card is designed to enter a self-protection state and not boot, with an LED visible through a small window to signal the issue. This is unlike the ASUS RTX 5090 ROG MATRIX which can use both to feed more power to the GPU. The Phantom Link module can also be removed if it interferes with components near the PCIe area. So basically this connector can be used optionally and on any modern motherboard.

Sapphire recently addressed reports of 16-pin power connector failures on its Nitro+ cards, which are the only Sapphire models using that connector, and said the cause has been cables or adapters rather than the GPU. The Phantom Link RX 9070 XT shown in the video also appears to include a revised cable routing channel, likely aimed at giving more room for cable bending and reducing stress near the connector.
