MaxSun launches PC Farm motherboard with four DDR5 slots on Mini-ITX form factor

MaxSun has introduced its MS-PC Farm motherboard lineup at a special event with Intel in China, positioning the series for “cloud esports” style deployments. The model that caught our attention is the MS-PC Farm B860I for Intel’s LGA1851 platform . Despite using an ITX form factor, it reportedly includes four DDR5 memory slots and supports up to 256GB, which targets high-density systems that need capacity more than peak memory OC.

MaxSun PC Farm platform is essentially a setup where many small PCs are deployed together and managed like servers. The goal is to run workloads remotely, like cloud gaming sessions, virtual desktops, or GPU compute, while handling provisioning and maintenance from a central console. Naturally, large memory capacity and smaller platform size are something that is important in this situation.

MAXSUN also says the PC Farm boards implement core BMC features and support IPMI 4.0 management, with functions like asset management, remote desktop, out-of-band management, and “one-to-many” routing features for scaling maintenance across many nodes.

The B860I model is also said to include a PCIe 5.0 MCIO connector, plus BIOS forced flashing and an intelligent fault diagnosis system.

Has there ever been a Mini-ITX board with four DDR5 slots?

In mainstream consumer Mini-ITX, two DIMM slots is the norm, mainly due to space and routing limits on 170 mm x 170 mm boards. Four-slot DDR5 does exist on ITX-like boards in the server and embedded space, but often as Deep Mini-ITX (larger than standard Mini-ITX). Examples include ASRock Rack Deep Mini-ITX boards that explicitly list 4 DDR5 UDIMM slots , such as AM5D4ID2 (AMD) and W680D4ID-2T (Intel).

For historical context, there have been true Mini-ITX boards with four memory slots using smaller SO-DIMM sticks, like ASRock’s X299E-ITX/ac (DDR4, 4x SO-DIMM) as pictured above.
