Lenovo Legion Go 2 is getting SteamOS version

Lenovo is preparing a SteamOS-powered version of the Legion Go Gen 2 for CES 2026, according to a report from Windows Latest. This would be the second handheld from Lenovo powered by SteamOS, given that the company already offers Legion Go S with Ryzen Z2 A (basically a Steam Deck APU).
The timing makes sense. The Legion Go Gen 2 already has the hardware for a console-style handheld, including an 8.8-inch OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 74Wh battery.
Windows Latest says the SteamOS model would keep the same core configuration a s the Windows version, rather than introducing new silicon.
SteamOS Legion Go 2 Specs
- AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme
- Up to 32GB LPDDR5X-8000
- Up to 2TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 2242 SSD
- 8.8-inch OLED, 1920 x 1200 (16:10), 144Hz, up to 500 nits, DCI-P3
- 74Wh battery, 65W USB-C charging
- Dual USB4 Type-C, microSD (up to 2TB), 3.5mm audio
According to details obtained by Windows Latest, Lenovo is pairing SteamOS with the same AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and up to 2TB of PCIe storage, all driving an 8.8-inch PureSight OLED display. Lenovo’s goal here is to deliver the full power of the Legion Go hardware, without the limitations that Windows has given to handheld gaming.

The software angle is the real story. Microsoft has been trying to make Windows 11 handhelds easier to use with a controller through the Xbox Full Screen Experience , which is now rolling out more widely and is documented in Microsoft’s own support pages. Early access was tied to ASUS ROG Xbox Ally systems, and it later reached devices like MSI Claw through preview builds. Lenovo has also said it plans to support the experience next year, but this timeline suggests some vendors got priority. Perhaps, some Lenovo excecs didn’t like that.
SteamOS, by design, boots into a controller-first interface and focuses on fast suspend and resume plus tight Steam integration. That is the workflow many handheld owners want, and Lenovo choosing SteamOS would be a direct bet on that approach.
Lenovo has not publicly confirmed this SteamOS SKU yet, so treat it as a report until CES 2026. Should Lenovo launch a SteamOS version, this would be the first officially supported device with Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU which comes with 8 Zen5 cores and Radeon 890M integrated graphics.
Does this update, along with the expected Steam Machine launch in 2026, mean SteamOS will thrive next year? I guess will find out soon.
