Microsoft will allow users to remove Copilot from LG smart TVs
LG says it will let TV owners delete the Microsoft Copilot shortcut icon in an upcoming webOS update, following complaints that it appeared after a software update and could not be removed.
The story began with our early report based on a Reddit post, showing a Copilot tile pinned on the home screen. Other outletsthen confirmed the behavior across newer webOS TVs.
LG also says the icon launches Copilot in the TV’s browser, and that input features like microphone use require user consent. The company did not share a specific rollout date for the delete option.

The same Reddit thread also pointed readers to “Live Plus,” a setting tied to content recognition and ad personalization. Consumer Reports describes LG’s Live Plus as part of its ACR tracking controls, and notes it can be turned off in the privacy and viewing information settings.
I have seen a lot of suggestions to keep the TV offline and use an external streaming device. That is simple advice, but it does not match how many people use a smart TV, since streaming is often the main reason the TV is online at all. Set-top boxes also add some complexity. HDMI-CEC behavior can vary (which allows you to use one remote), so you can end up juggling remotes. There is extra power draw, and one more device to maintain.
Some readers prefer Google TV or Android TV for this reason. You often get more control over what you install, what you remove, and which launcher you use, which is harder to expect on LG or Samsung platforms.
