Starfield’s next major update rumor: freer space travel, engine work, and a PS5 port

Report claims Bethesda is lining up Starfield’s second expansion and a spaceflight rewrite

Rumors about Starfield’s next big update and DLC started circulating again this week, after claims that Bethesda showed upcoming changes in a behind-closed-doors session. The report comes from Windows Central.

The core claim is a rework of space travel. Sources described fewer hard loading breaks during flight, with travel and exploration systems adjusted to feel more continuous. The same reporting also points to Creation Engine work meant to support those changes, with upgrades that could carry into other Bethesda projects.

For AMD, Starfield was an important launch title

Platform talk is part of the rumor package too. Windows Central’s reporting says Starfield is planned for PlayStation 5 in 2026, and also mentions a Nintendo Switch 2 version. Timing is still unclear, with some sources pointing to the first half of 2026 and others pushing later into the year.

On the DLC side, “Terran Armada” is the name being passed around, but it is still not official. Separately from the closed-door claims, Bethesda’s Tim Lamb has already said a team is working on space gameplay to make travel “more rewarding,” alongside new systems and smaller additions. That older tease is now being used as context for why the next update could focus on flight and traversal.

I wanted to verify the terms of the embargo before saying anything, but full disclosure: I can confirm that I received an early look from Bethesda Game Studios at what’s coming to Starfield. I will be able to share more information in the future, but for now… that’s all.

One concrete piece in the middle of the noise is a post from Jay Dook, who said he received an early look from Bethesda Game Studios and wanted to confirm embargo terms before speaking. That does not validate every detail in the leak chain, but it does support the basic idea that Bethesda is briefing some creators on what is coming next.
