Steam client switches to 64-bit on Windows 10 and 11, 32-bit Windows support ends January 1, 2026
Valve has pushed a Steam client update dated December 19, 2025 that moves the Windows client to 64-bit on Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit.

Systems running 32-bit versions of Windows will still receive updates for a short window. Valve says 32-bit Steam client updates will continue until January 1, 2026 .
This change has been on Valve’s support pages for months, and the new client update is a clear confirmation that the cutoff date is still the plan. Valve also says Windows 10 32-bit is the only 32-bit Windows version Steam still supports, and it represents about 0.01% of systems in the Steam Hardware Survey.
After January 1, 2026, Steam may keep running for a while on 32-bit Windows, but it will no longer receive updates or security fixes, and Valve will not guarantee functionality or provide support for issues tied to that OS.
