GeForce NOW’s 100-hour monthly cap starts January 1 for everyone, user’s chart shows what extra time costs

GeForce NOW’s 100-hour monthly cap starts January 1, a Reddit chart breaks down the cost

GeForce NOW is set to cap playtime at 100 hours per month starting January 1. In case you missed the news, this was announced back in 2024 and only affected users with new subscriptions. Those users who remained active subscribers will be impacted starting next year. To make this easier to understand, Redditor “appleroyales” shared a pricing chart that estimates how much cloud gaming could cost once you go over the included hours.

The chart assumes two tiers. Performance is $9.99 per month, plus $2.99 for each extra 15 hours. Ultimate is $19.99 per month, plus $5.99 for each extra 15 hours . It also uses an average month length of 30.437 days, and rounds up to the next 15-hour block once you cross 100 hours.

Current subscribers will be affected next month

NVIDIA announced that paid members will be affected by the change starting from January 2026. Although it seems like a lot of time has passed, it’s important to remind those users that their playtime will now be counted.

To thank the GFN community for joining the cloud gaming revolution, GeForce NOW is offering active paid members as of Dec. 31, 2024, the ability to continue with unlimited playtime for a full year until January 2026.

If you play 3 hours a day, not much will change

At up to about 3 hours per day (around 91 hours per month), the total stays at $9.99 or $19.99. At 4 hours per day (about 122 hours per month), the estimate rises to $15.97 for Performance or $31.97 for Ultimate. At 5 hours per day, it becomes $21.95 or $43.95. At 10 hours per day, it reaches $51.85 or $103.85.

The Reddit post also includes rough comparison figures for buying hardware, like a high-end gaming PC, a PS5 Pro, and a projected Steam Machine price. These are broad estimates and do not include factors like electricity, regional pricing, resale value, or repurposing older hardware. It is easy to see that unless one plays 6 hours a day through GeForce NOW, it should still be cheaper than buying brand new PlayStation 5 Pro.
