Misaligned 12V-2×6 port leaves $4000 ROG Matrix RTX 5090 owner unable to connect cable

Limited ROG Matrix RTX 5090 reportedly arrives with power connector placement issue

ASUS’s ROG Matrix Platinum GeForce RTX 5090 30th Anniversary Edition is promoted as a limited-run flagship, with a reported $3,999 MSRP and a stated production run of 1,000 units.  A Swedish retailer claimed ASUS paused shipments due to a quality control issue, without naming the defect.

One early buyer now says they received a card with a power connector that is physically misaligned. Reddit user Adrenaline424 reports the 12V-2×6 (often referred to as 12VHPWR) socket sits offset to the right relative to the cooler frame, leaving too little clearance to insert the cable.

Has anyone else been able to get a Matrix 5090? I went to install mine today and it seems that the 12vhpwr connector on the gpu is offset to the right of the cooler frame and does not allow the cable to be plugged in. Pretty insane for a $4000 GPU…

The 12V-2×6 plug requires full insertion, and even a minor obstruction can block proper seating, so clearance is important. The Matrix model also uses a dual power approach: ASUS markets support for up to 800 W draw when the card is connected both via the GC-HPWR interface on a compatible BTF motherboard and via a 12V-2×6 cable. If the 12V-2×6 side cannot be connected correctly, that feature path is blocked.

As far as we know, this is the only case of this issue, and ASUS has not tied the complaint to the previously reported shipment pause. Still, anyone who managed to buy one should check connector alignment and cable clearance before final installation. ASUS has seemingly stepped in to replace the card.
