ASUS tests 27-inch 5K ROG monitor on RTX 5090 D
The flagship NVIDIA GPU doesn’t even deliver 60 FPS with DLSS on 5K

It will take a long time before 5K monitors become mainstream. ASUS China’s Tony Yu posted an unboxing and early hands-on of the ROG Strix 27 Pro (27 Pro) monitor. This is the same monitor that we know as XG27JCG . This is one of the first ‘mainstream’ 5K monitors from ASUS that offers 27-panel with 5K high-refresh “dual-mode” feature. The display runs at 5120×2880 with up to 180Hz, or switches to 2560×1440 with up to 330Hz.
At 27 inches, 5K pushes pixel density to about 218 PPI. Yu shows why Windows scaling matters at this density. He used 200% scaling, since 100% makes text hard to read. For comparison, 32-inch 4K setups often sit around 150% scaling. 5K also has about 78% more pixels than 4K, so GPU load rises fast.

The monitor uses a matte Fast IPS panel and a compact stand with a small footprint. Tony also shows a cable cover, rear ROG lighting with Aura Sync support, and a 1/4-inch threaded mount on top for a camera or light. Ports shown include two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort (yes that’s 1.4 not 2.1), USB-C with DP signal and PD power delivery, a USB hub with three USB-A ports, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

For performance, Tony compared Cyberpunk 2077 at 5K and 4K on a system with an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 D. With ray tracing enabled, DLSS set to Balanced, and frame generation disabled, the benchmark averaged 51.39 FPS at 5120×2880 . The same settings averaged 77.40 FPS at 3840×2160. Even with RTX 5090 D, 5K can land far below the 60 FPS range in heavy AAA settings, while 4K is much closer. That is 26.01 FPS lower, or about 33.6% slower at 5K. Put another way, 5K delivered about 66.4% of the 4K frame rate, and 4K was about 50.6% faster in this test.

This quick test shows that even NVIDIA’s flagship GPU, with DLSS enabled and ray tracing set to maximum, struggles to deliver 60 FPS. A few years ago, NVIDIA ran a big marketing campaign with well-known tech influencers saying 8K was the new flagship resolution. It looks like that is still a few years away.
