Corsair sends $35 dummy DDR5 RGB light modules instead of a $999 96GB memory kit to user

User RMA’d 96GB DDR5, got Corsair’s lighting-only “RAM” instead

A Reddit user says Corsair replaced his faulty 96GB DDR5 Vengeance kit with something that looks like RAM, but works like a desk lamp.

According to the post, one stick in the 96GB kit died, so the user sent it in for an RMA. The package that came back was correcly labeled, however something was wrong with the memory, because it did not work.

The Redditor says that the memory looked strange and it had “bad teeth” contacts, with only a few gold pads instead of a full connector edge. People in the thread quickly pointed out what it was: Corsair’s lighting enhancement kit , which is meant to fill empty DDR5 slots and light up RGB. One commenter summed it up as the “we have RAM at home” kit.

If the pricing people tossed around is accurate, the mix-up hurts. The user expected a high-capacity DDR5 kit and got a cosmetic filler set that sells for a fraction of that. The kit is worth $35, while the cheapest 96GB memory kit (the Redditor did not mention which kit he has) is worth at least $999, according to Corsair website.

Corsair support also showed up in the comments and asked for the ticket or order number, so this one might end with real RAM instead of decorative mood lighting.
