ARK 2 pushed to 2028 as Studio Wildcard keeps building out Survival Ascended

Studio Wildcard is now targeting 2028 for ARK 2, based on comments from co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz during Snail Games’ Investor Day and an accompanying Epic Games Store interview.
The studio is putting the next stretch of work into ARK: Survival Ascended, with a roadmap that runs through Q4 2027. The big endpoint is Legacy of Santiago, described as a prequel that also lets the team test mechanics planned for ARK 2 inside a live game. Stieglitz says the goal is to keep supporting Ascended longer, and use player feedback to refine features before they become “locked” into the sequel.
ARK 2, Jeremy Stieglitz, co-founder of developer Studio Wildcard, said, is currently planned for a 2028 release.

Vin Diesel is still tied to ARK 2 on paper, but Stieglitz calls his level of involvement “an open question,” and suggests the story will adapt based on availability. On Steam, ARK 2 remains listed with a planned release date shown as “To be announced.”
The delay is also inviting comparisons to Star Citizen, a project that has lived in public alpha development for years while continuing to expand. Cloud Imperium also leaned hard on celebrity marketing for its single-player campaign Squadron 42, including cast names like Gary Oldman, Mark Hamill, and Gillian Anderson. Some players will joke that long timelines and famous faces can turn into an endless loop of “still in development,” even when the studio keeps shipping updates along the way.
