AMD RDNA5 in mid-2027, leaker claims
A fresh rumor suggested AMD could move next-generation Radeon production to Samsung Foundry on 2nm or 4nm. Leaker Kepler_L2 pushed back, calling it nonsense and saying the chips are already taped out on TSMC N3P. Kepler_L2 has a solid track record with AMD hardware chatter, and his name has also been tied to early PlayStation 5 Pro spec discussions.
For RDNA 5 timing, Kepler_L2 pointed to a mid-2027 release window . That lines up with the longer runway you would expect after tape-out.
From AMD itself, there is still no desktop product announcement and no confirmed branding. AMD’s public roadmap language talks about next-generation gaming GPUs with more AI and ray tracing focus, but it does not name “RDNA 5” or attach dates. The company will talk about EPYC roadmaps multiple generations out and even confirm first 2nm EPYC wafers, but Radeon updates tend to stay vague.
Still, lots of hopes on RDNA 5
One of the clearer public hints is “Project Amethyst” with Sony. AMD and Sony have described future work around Radiance Cores for ray tracing and path tracing, Neural Arrays for AI-assisted graphics workloads, and broader compression methods to reduce bandwidth pressure. The belief is that desktop gaming GPUs and next-gen console SoC will share these technologies.
Most of the desktop lineup talk remains leak-driven. You will often see “ GFX13″ referenced as the next internal graphics family, alongside claims of multiple desktop dies labeled AT0, AT2, AT3, and AT4 with varying CU counts and memory configurations. HDMI 2.2 support also shows up in rumor threads, but there is no official spec sheet yet.
Quiet 2026
Radeon marketing has felt quiet for most of the year, and and shall I remind you that AMD literally cut the RDNA4 announcement from the CES 2025 presentation? I do not expect anything on RDNA5 at CES 2026, I would be surprised if they even mentioned the RX 9000 series apart from ‘yes we make Radeon GPUs’.
Part of it could be timing, since AMD may not want to start the hype cycle too early if the real target is mid-2027. Another factor could be inventory and pricing, since memory shortages and cost spikes can make a 2026 desktop launch harder to position. Perhaps AMD had some plans to launch RDNA5 in 2026, but it looks like memory shortages have made that impossible. Still, it’s not like AMD is not known for launching cards with fake MSRPs…
