Report claims Exynos 2600 uses MGFX4 RDNA4-derived graphics

Samsung’s Exynos 2600 is the first Exynos chip said to use an AMD RDNA4-based GPU architecture, according to a report from The Elec. Samsung pairs it with the Exynos Xclipse 960 GPU. The Xclipse 960 is described as using “ MGFX4 ,” which The Elec says is Samsung’s reduced and adapted version of AMD’s RDNA design assets for mobile AP use. The previous Exynos 2500 used the Xclipse 950 with MGFX3, a variant tied to RDNA3.
It’s worth noting that AMD RDNA4 was not used for any mobile or integrated GPU before, AMD themselves have not used it for any Ryzen architecture and the Zen6 based APUs seem to be already moving to RDNA5 instead. So when a report claims RDNA4, it is very likely RDNA3 with some RDNA4 features, much like Sony adopts AMD architectures.
On its Exynos 2600 product page, Samsung says the Xclipse 960 moves to a new architecture and delivers up to 2x higher compute performance versus the prior generation. Samsung also claims ray tracing throughput is up to 50% higher, and that the chip adds Exynos Neural Super Sampling (ENSS) with AI upscaling and frame generation.

The Elec also shares early implementation details. Xclipse 960 is said to use 8 workgroup processors (WGPs) and a peak clock of 980MHz. That matches the prior Xclipse 950 WGP count, but the peak clock is slightly lower than 999MHz, which suggests Samsung is leaning on higher IPC rather than higher frequency.
In Geekbench 6 results cited for an Exynos 2600 test board, the chip scored about 22,000 in OpenCL and 22,800 in Vulkan. The competing Qualcomm Adreno 840 scored about 23,900 and 27,600, around 10% to 20% higher in these results, though real devices can vary by design and thermals.
Samsung and AMD started this graphics IP collaboration in 2019, and Samsung’s first shipping result was Xclipse 920 in Exynos 2200 in January 2022, The Elec notes. A Samsung official told The Elec the company will keep working with AMD, and that GPU development has many variables when asked about future in-house plans.
