GeForce RTX 5080 32GB mods are reportedly now possible, could affect RTX 5080 supply

Chinese repair shop claims RTX 5080 32GB mods are now available

A Chinese GPU repair technician says GeForce RTX 5080 cards are now being upgraded to 32GB on a regular basis. The mod doubles VRAM compared to the standard 16GB configuration, and he suggests demand for these conversions could start pulling more retail cards out of the normal gaming channel.

In his video, the technician also calls out “Turbo” builds as a key driver. That label is commonly used for blower-style cards that exhaust air out the rear, which makes them easier to stack in dense AI and workstation boxes. He expects more of these conversions as shops get comfortable with the rework process and as buyers keep asking for higher VRAM in a compact, server-friendly form factor.

NVIDIA is also rumored to be preparing a GeForce RTX 5080 SUPER with 24GB of memory by using 3GB GDDR7 modules, but recent reporting points to a delay into late Q1 to early Q2 2026 (March to May 2026). Even if that model ships on that schedule, it would still sit below the 32GB capacity that these custom cards are aiming for.

a gpu repair technician in china claimed 5080 32g has already been a thing.

"""
目前5080呢
已經是可以成功改32G了
改32G渦輪
所以後期的拆芯片改渦輪呢
應該是還是會很多的
所以我感覺5080的價格有可能會起飛

The “buy gaming cards, convert them for AI” playbook is not new. Earlier examples include factory-scale conversions of GeForce RTX 5090 boards into blower-style AI cards , and GeForce RTX 4090 memory upgrades that push capacity well past stock configurations. Some modders also point to leaked NVIDIA materials from the 2022 hacking $ incident and the later circulation of customized tooling as part of what made this work easier to repeat at scale.
