Leak suggests AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D may land at a similar MSRP to the 9800X3D

US retailer Ryzen 7 9850X3D listing hints at 9800X3D-level MSRP

Is the Ryzen 7 9800X3D getting a discount, then?

A new retailer listing suggests AMD’s Ryzen 7 9850X3D could land at roughly the same MSRP tier as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. In the screenshot shared by @momomo_us, the 7800X3D shows an MSRP of $449, the 9800X3D shows $479, and the 9850X3D appears to be around $511, with MSRP not listed.

What we know so far points to the 9850X3D being an AM5, 8-core, 16-thread X3D chip aimed at the same crowd as the 9800X3D. Like other X3D parts, the key selling point is the large 3D V-Cache configuration for gaming workloads. Recent Geekbench chatter suggests this is mostly a clock bump rather than a new revision, with around a 400 MHz uplift being the main change.

That also helps explain why the 9800X3D launched at a higher price than the 7800X3D. It moved to the newer Zen generation, raised clocks, and took over the main 8-core X3D slot in AMD’s stack. Launch pricing also tends to reflect early demand and tighter supply.

If the 9850X3D is only a small frequency update, keeping MSRP close to the 9800X3D makes sense. It avoids splitting the lineup into too many price steps for two near-identical parts. It also raises the chance that the 9800X3D becomes the discounted option once the 9850X3D shows up in volume.
