Redditor gets replacement ASUS TUF RTX 5080 after Best Buy “rocks in the box” case

ASUS TUF RTX 5080 ROCK Edition

The history with a good ending.

Earlier this month, we broke the story of a Redditor who claimed to have purchased an RTX 5080 GPU (ASUS TUF) from Best Buy. However, upon delivery, something was not quite right.

A Reddit user who previously said they received rocks instead of an ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 5080 from Best Buy has posted an update, saying the case is now resolved. He said Best Buy issued a refund, then agreed to honor the original sale price for a replacement card.

He says Best Buy first told him a replacement was coming, but then on December 2 it denied both a refund and a replacement after what he calls a rushed “investigation.” He claims they asked for photos of the packaging, then emailed him minutes later saying the review was already finished.

Later on, he said the Better Business Bureau complaint helped get things moving. He also pointed to shipping details he tracked down, including a reported weight jump of almost 3 lbs during FedEx transit, plus what he describes as pretty minimal outer packaging from Best Buy. After that, he says Best Buy issued the refund.

The refund didn’t fully solve it, though, because the card was no longer discounted. He says Best Buy ended up price-matching his original purchase and shipped the replacement to his local store. That’s a lot of hoops to jump through for someone who just wanted the GPU they paid for.

After the case was closed, the Redditor got a special tattoo to mark the occasion (included in the header image).
