AMD Ryzen AI 400 for desktops

AMD used its CES 2026 briefing to confirm that Ryzen AI 400 will not stay a laptop-only label. The company said the Ryzen AI 400 family will also power “socketed desktops,” bringing Copilot+ class NPUs to desktop PCs.
Under the hood, this points to a desktop APU refresh that lines up with the mobile Ryzen AI 400 “Gorgon Point” parts. AMD describes Ryzen AI 400 as a 4 nm update with higher clocks and a faster NPU, rather than a new core or graphics design. Users should expect up to 12-core, 24-thread top configuration, up to 5.2GHz boost, an RDNA 3.5 iGPU with 16 CUs, and up to 60 TOPS from the XDNA 2 NPU.
AMD Ryzen 400G
AMD has not named the desktop SKUs yet. It also has not said how many “G” style models to expect, or how it plans to segment them. What it did say is that the desktop parts will share the same Copilot+ direction as the laptop lineup, which targets the 40+ TOPS requirement on the NPU side.
This naming choice does clean up one part of the story. If the desktop APU line carries Ryzen AI 400 branding, it lines up the same silicon family across laptops, mini PCs, and now socketed desktops. It can still create confusion for buyers who treat Ryzen 7000 and 9000 as the full desktop map. That makes the jump from an expected “9000G” label to “Ryzen AI 400G” harder to understand.
AMD has not shared pricing for any socketed Ryzen AI 400 desktop parts. GamesBeat reports desktops powered by Ryzen AI 400 Series processors starting in Q2 2026, while laptops start in Q1 2026.
