Safeguard for GPUs for any 12V-2×6 GPU

MSI is adding a new power safety feature called GPU Safeguard+ to select MPG power supplies. The goal is to catch abnormal load behavior on the 12VHPWR and 12V-2×6 cable before it turns into a connector or cable issue.
The company has been leaning into this area after repeated reports of 12VHPWR and 12V-2×6 problems under edge-case conditions. Unfortunately for MSI, a great number of cases of burned power adapters on RTX 50 cards was with MSI’s yellow-tipped connector. A small accessory market has formed around cable and adapter workarounds. Meanwhile, MSI is taking a different route by putting more monitoring in the PSU and surfacing it in software.
GPU Safeguard+ tracks current on the 12V-2×6 connector in real time. It can watch the six power wires and look for current imbalance or instant overcurrent. On supported models with two 12V-2×6 outputs, monitoring runs on both connectors.

When the PSU flags an anomaly, the system enters a warning phase. A buzzer starts beeping and MSI Center can show a pop-up alert with connector status. The user gets three minutes to reduce load or stop the condition. If it continues, MSI describes a forced protection step that leads to a black screen while the buzzer keeps sounding. The expectation is that the user then shuts the PC down and checks for issues like a partially seated plug.

MSI Center is also used for broader PSU telemetry. MSI shows real-time monitoring, alerts and logs, fan and PSU status, plus a power consumption history view.
GPU Safeguard+ is listed for the MPG Ai1600TS PCIE5 and MPG Ai1300TS PCIE5. MSI positions this as PSU-side protection rather than GPU-side power monitoring. MSI also shows MSI Center handling a dual 12V-2×6 layout, which matches the cabling used by some dual-connector cards like MSI’s GeForce RTX 5090 LIGHTNING , while GPU-side monitoring designs like ASUS ROG Astral stay tied to specific graphics cards.
