Samsung Display and Intel detail SmartPower HDR as Galaxy Book6 Pro moves to Core Ultra 300
Samsung Display says it has co-developed SmartPower HDR with Intel to cut OLED emissive power use on laptops. The companies say the feature targets HDR workloads without forcing the panel to run at a fixed high drive voltage.
SmartPower HDR adjusts panel driving voltage based on what is on screen. Samsung Display says the laptop SoC analyzes each frame’s peak brightness in real time and sends the data to the display timing controller, which then calculates an optimal voltage using that brightness data and the On Pixel Ratio.

Samsung Display claims up to a 22% reduction in OLED emissive power use during standard usage, and up to 17% during HDR content. It also says standard usage power can be comparable to SDR, which is one reason many laptops ship with HDR disabled by default.
The announcement lines up with Samsung’s new Galaxy Book6 Pro series, which Samsung says is moving to Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. Intel positions Core Ultra Series 3 as its Panther Lake laptop platform, also marketed as the Core Ultra 300 series. However Smart Power HDR is not part of this release, but the next-gen OLED laptops. Samsung Display did not name the first laptops that will ship with SmartPower HDR.
